Won $1187 Playing $2-$5 at South Point, Busted the Table in 30 Minutes
October 26, 2007
I was going to play at Caesar’s Palace tonight, but got off to a late start. Instead, I chose a local casino, the one where you see famous poker players on that TV show, High Stakes Poker. I pulled up to the valet and tried to find the poker room, hoping there was a game with my usual stakes. Fortunately, the poker room at South Point is quite large, and there were about 5 or 6 games going on, although most were low stakes.
I had to get on the list in order to play, which I didn’t expect since there were so many games. I put my name on the list for $1-$3NL and $2-$5NL. After about 10 minutes, the floorman put me on a $1-$3 table and I played a whopping 1 hand before I heard somebody announce “Attention poker players, there’s an open seat in $2-$5NL Texas Holdem Poker.” I walked up to the floorman and complained about how I wasn’t offered the game, and finally sat down to play.
My first hand was AJs, and I raised it to $25 from under the gun. A couple players called and I flopped my ace. I bet $25 again to see where I was at, getting two callers. The turn card was a blank, so I decided to dig in a little bit more, betting $50. Both players called once again. I figured that the first player was a weaker player, simply calling because he wanted to hit a draw, and the player behind him, who seemed to know what he was doing, was simply calling on a basis of pot odds with a pair and a draw. The river came down the 3c and didn’t complete any draws. I checked my hand, hoping for somebody to bluff as I knew I was in good shape. The player right behind me checked and the final player bet $100. I raised him all in for another $400 and they both folded.
The next hand I looked down to see AQo. I raised once again and got a couple callers. The flop was QQ10 which was probably the best flop I could have seen as far as action goes. I bet $25 and was raised to $50. I reraised to $250 and one of my opponents called. The turn came a blank, I went all in and he called. I showed my hand and he mucked, busting him out of the table.
In the meantime, a couple players began racking their chips up. I was starting to wear the players down just after a couple hands.
My next hand I was on the big blind with AA. One player had raised to $25 and another called. I reraised to $75 and both players called. I hit my set on the flop of A89. I bet $150 into my opponents and both called, making them both all-in. I showed my hand, won the pot, and busted out these two players. The players who were racking up their chips left the table and it was now a heads up match between me and another player who had about $400 or so.
I started as the button and looked down at A10s. I raised to $25 and my opponent called. I hit my ace on the flop and bet another $25, getting a call. I bet another $50 on the turn and he called. The river came and I bet $50 once again, causing my opponent to fold.
The next hand started and I found AA once again. I raised to $25 and got a call. This time I hit my set on the flop and bet $25. The turn came and I bet $60, which my opponent called again. I bet $100 on the river, got called and showed my aces. My opponent had a little less than $200 left.
I was on the button once again and saw JJ. This time I slow played and just called the $5 blind. My opponent checked and we saw a flop. You wouldn’t believe it, I hit another set! Since I was on the button this time, he checked and I bet $25, which he called. I bet $50 on the turn and got another call. The river came and I simply went all in, causing him to put in about $125 in chips to make a call. I won the hand and had completely busted the table!
Good nights like this don’t happen very often, bit it’s nights like this that make playing poker fun.

Lost $814 Playing $2-$5NL at Caesars Palace - 8 hours
October 26, 2007
I had a terrible night tonight playing $2-5NL at the Caesar’s Palace Poker Room. I began playing at about 6:00pm and didn’t leave until about 1:30am. After losing a $200 pot, then losing another $50 to a reraise, I attempted to gear down a little bit and played only top 20% for awhile. Unfortunately, nothing came within that category for hours. After opening up a little bit and playing top 40% of my hands, I realized how cold my streak was, and only lost from calling small raises and blinds. Anything in the top 40% was a great hand at this time, but I never hit a flop.
I moved from seat 7 to seat 9, hoping to catch some better cards. The guy in seat 8 was stacking chips quite often so I figured maybe I could be superstitious and make the move. After that, neither me nor seat 8 were catching cards and the luck seemed to move to the other side of the table. I couldn’t seem to catch anything all night long. The best hands I saw were QQ and AKs and I’ll tell you exactly how they went down below.
I had a great position on the button and unfortunately for me, nobody had called before then. I bet $20 hoping to simply pick up $7 from the blinds. However, both blinds called and we got to see a flop. The flop came down Jack high so I felt very comfortable with my hand. I bet $25 again to see how I was doing and the big blind was the lone caller. The turn came an Ace and I bet $30. My opponent raised me to $90 and I folded on a good read. I could have gone all in and won, but I’m not one to risk that many chips against a possible Ax. I showed my queens and folded, while my opponent showed pocket kings and told me how upset he was that he didn’t reraise before the flop or on the flop.
AKs
I was under the gun in this hand, so I just called $5 hoping for somebody else to raise my hand, while also identifying any strong hands at the table. Five people called and the button raised to $25. The small blind called and there was $75 in the pot now. I reraised the $25 to $65 knowing that only a very strong hand would have called me, besides to two players who already had $25 in the pot. Three of my opponents called the reraise, and they likely had big cards in their hands.
The flop came down QJJ with a diamond, club, and a spade. I couldn’t even backdraw to a flush! I checked to see what kind of action would follow. The first player bet $50, the second player raised to $125, and the third player went all-in. I had nothing, so I had to fold. To my surprise, all three players went all-in on the flop and showed some very strong hands, except one guy. One player showed AQ, another QQ, and the last K10.
So as you can see, I couldn’t hit a hand all night, which is why I lost $800 over the course of 7 1/2 hours. I’ve won more in a lesser amount of time, so I’m not too upset about it.
Won $36 Playing $4/$8 - 45 Minutes at Caesar’s Palace
October 26, 2007
Just a quick blog about a game that I sat down in and played after I returned some clothes in the Caesar’s Palace forum Shoppes.
Tonight I wasn’t able to get into a $2-$5NL or $1-$3NL game because the list was too long, and I didn’t want to wait around. Instead I played aggressively and was fortunate enough to hit a set of 7’s and a set of 3’s in the little time that I played. At one point, I was down about $30, but I ended up winning $36.
Giant Panda Chinese Cafe
October 21, 2007
It’s “cheat day” at our house today and the girls brought me back some food from a place called “The Giant Panda.” This is a place that’s located near South Point Casino off of I-15, probably not a restaraunt many tourists would eat at. However, the food is good, so i just wanted to comment on it.
Carmen Electra & Wolfgang Puck Host Grand Opening Soiree at Poetry Nightclub
October 21, 2007
We were cordially invited to the new Poetry nightclub located in the Forum Shoppes of Caesars Palace, I got dressed to impress. This party was being hosted by two awesome people, Carmen Electra and Wolfgang Puck. Although I didn’t see Carmen anywhere, my girlfriend hung out with her for about an hour and was able to get a few photos snapped off.
The nightclub was incredible. We arrived at about 8:30 after parking in the VIP valet lot behind Versace, and were immediately greeted by the doorman when we found the new Poetry nightclub. Upon entering the club, waitresses were at the top of the stairs handing each of us glasses full of delicious champagne. We stood around for awhile, taking the atmosphere in. Hor’Dourves such as Chinese chicken salads, pot stickers, chicken on a stick with honey-mustard sauce, and others that I can’t quite describe.
The DJ was playing a good mix of songs on his Apple computers and the lightshow in the room was awesome. Probably the one thing that I liked the most about the Poetry nightclub was that there was always a perfect mix of people in the room. The feeling of being in a nightclub that is crowded is not something that I like (cough LAX cough).
All in all, I was really impressed by the Poetry nightclub and I’ll most certainly make another appearance in the near future.
Won $286 Last Night, Bankroll at $2272
October 20, 2007
Carmen Electra and Wolfgang Puck were hosting an opening soiree at Caesars Palace’s new nightclub last night. After attending this wonderful event, I decided that I need to take a break and play some poker, so I went down to the Caesar’s Palace poker room.
At this point, I was very drunk. I never advise anybody to play poker drunk because it’s usually difficult to control yourself at the poker table when you have been drinking. However, I have been able to keep my composure while playing poker after a few drinks. In fact, I’ve almost learned to adapt to the adjustments the other players make when assuming my play will be extremely loose.
I never play high stakes poker games while I’m drunk. It’s just plain stupid to do that. My reasoning for this is not just because there is more money at stake, but also because I don’t want the regulars that I typically play with recognizing that I’m drunk and outplaying me. I’d much rather get into a low stakes poker game and play against a bunch of randoms.
My table of choice tonight was a $1-$3NL Texas Holdem game. I bought in for $300 and gave the other players exactly what they were expecting, a super loose player who likes to gamble. After getting only a few decent hands, I looked down to see a pair of 7’s under the gun. I called the $3 blind and a player in middle position raised to $20. Four other players called and it was up to me again. I only had about $250 or so left so I figured I would just go all in and see if I could steal the pot preflop. Sure enough, the initial raiser calls me, while everybody else folded, and showed Pocket Kings. I figured I at least had a decent shot since the pot was pretty big, but I missed and passed him my stack.
I bought back in for another $300 and kept my loose image going. I was getting typical hands, calling about 40% of the time and raising anything decent. I called a lot of raised pots as well if I had anything that would classify into the 30% bracket such as Ax suited Kx suited or any two suited face cards. It wasn’t long before I got into a raised pot with QJo. The flop came 7 3 10 and had 6 outs and two backdoors that I could win the hand with. I checked while the preflop raiser made what seemed to be a continuation bet of just $15. I called his bet as did 2 other players and saw the turn. The turn came a 9, which put me into an open ended straight draw and I still had my overcards. With the way the betting was going I thought that the preflop raiser probably had AK, which was fine with me because I now wanted to see a King on the board. He bet $30, the other opponents folded, and I wanted this pot. I moved all in, hoping my opponent would just go away. Instead, he called and showed me 10 10, a set of 10’s. The river card came a King and I took down a pot with over $700 in it.
I continued to stab at pots and kept the action going on the table. Once I looked down and had QQ so I bet $25 from early position. A short stacked player reraised to like $60 and a player was trapped between us. He called the $60 bet and then I moved in on him, forcing him to fold. My opponent showed 4 4 and I crushed him, making $120 in profit on the hand.
I played a little bit longer and left with a nice profit for the night, bringing my bankroll to $2272 since I’ve started recording 3 sessions ago.
3 Police Officers Shot Near Paradise and Twain
October 20, 2007
A man running from the police shot and hit three officers Friday. Witnesses claim that the man was upset over a domestic dispute that occurred shortly before and went on a rampage.
He created a standoff situation by throwing mattresses up against the windows of a second story apartment, which was surrounded by nearly 100 police officers, including Las Vegas SWAT.
After several hours, the man gave up and was arrested, likely to spend the rest of his life behind bars.
